And Another One Bites the Dust…
Jul 29th
On Friday, the 31st of July 2009, The Matrix Online servers will go down permanently. This is the first time that Sony Online Entertainment shuts down one of its hosted games. Are there more to come? Maybe some Pirates?
I played MXO for a while and got a character to maximum level. It was a fun game for while, especially the full-PvP worlds were great. To be honest, I don’t know where the game went wrong, it had an innovative combat system and an amazing, as well as engaging live story arc. Role-playing was fine too, with lots of clubs that players could hang out in and online radio channels for each of the three factions.
It is a real shame if you ask me, because after all those years, I still sometimes installed the game for a short to medium refresher. Now my Station Pass is worth less really, but I will not hold my breath for SOE lowering the monthly fee…
The MMO Report: Champions Online Preview Special
Jul 28th
g4tv.com have a nice preview special video for Champions Online:
Not too long ago Atari invited The MMO Report to come up to San Francisco to spend some time with their upcoming MMO, Champions Online. Not only is it the best looking game we’ve seen in a while, but the seeminly infinite options in the character customization and the anyone/anytime/anywhere PvP system they’ve developed seem to beg the hardcore MMOers to come in and test the waters. Are you up for to the challenge, heroes?
Stargate Worlds – Funding Issue Rumour
Jul 27th
Massively.com have published this rumour about Stargate Worlds:
Stargate fans have long since been left wondering what’s been going on with Stargate Worlds, but come August 1st — or sometime soon thereafter — their wait may finally be over. The rumor stems from a claim made by a recently departed employee who claims MGM has given Firesky until the beginning of next month to acquire funding or face having the licensed pulled.
Apparently a group of doctors who could potentially invest up to $8 million are the game’s last hope. However, the same ex-employee says there’s little chance the deal will actually go through by the deadline. Shane Hensley, Firesky’s director of new business development, has said that they’re continuing to speak with investors — including the doctors. While he also says they’ve never considered scrapping the project, he doesn’t deny the claim, either.
Ultimately, Hensley has hope but seems to be realistic about the situation, saying, “I doubt this will last much longer, but those who are here currently are amazingly dedicated and continue to make progress on our projects despite the circumstances.” We’ll keep you updated on any new progress, and hopefully there’s a happy ending to all of this, even though our instincts are currently warning us to think otherwise.
KULTS – TMO Beta
Jul 27th
I’ve just launched a TMO-users-only, sandbox version of my interactive novel: KULTS.
KULTS is an multi-user interactive novel in which the readers are put into the roles of survivors after a strange incident that turned most humans into mindless killers. The settings is very heavily influenced by horror-survival movies, books and games such as Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil, Hellraiser, Lovecraftian Mythos and Left 4 Dead.
Feel free to try it out – (read the Tutorial first) there is not much there yet, but please check back to learn about new features and additions. If you have feedback or find a bug, please leave a report in the forum.
